Smart Goals Keep Us In a Box. Find Your Purpose and Be The Box

Waking up on a cold frosty winters morning struggling to get out of bed. I wonder why I am going to work today.

Have your ever had that feeling?

We often overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in 5 years.

Millennial Money Mindset. Money Tipps

We need goals to pull us out of bed excited for the day.

When we choose to follow Smart goals we lose the motivation to do something meaningful with our lives.

We need to be pulled by our dreams rather than pushed by a to-do list of chores.

Smart goals are often used in the corporate world as a form of box-ticking. To check off if we are on track with the companies profits target. For our goals to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound (S.M.A.R.T).

Although the corporate world wants to keep us in a box, the world doesn’t work like this. We don’t perform at our best stuck in a box. Rather than smart goals, we need something different!

Millennial Money Mindset: Money Tipps

We need unrealistic goals, we need seemingly unattainable goals, we need to find our own individual box rather than another corporate box, the same as everyone else. We need to find where we can be the best version of ourselves. We need to find our Ikegai.

Ikegai is a Japanese concept which means our reason for being or our purpose. Your purpose is the feeling you get when what you are doing is bigger than yourself. Where you are needed and that there is something better ahead to work for. Where you are good at what you do, and you can help others.

Where you are your best self?

To work out your Ikigai you need to work out four things

1) What you’re good at? What have you had experience and education doing something? Where have we done well or excelled before?

2) What can you be paid for? Where can you solve people’s problems? Where is there a demand for your services?
